On a recent day trip up through the Junction area of Toronto, I decided to pop in quickly to the Indie Alehouse to see what they had in their bottle shop. Unfortunately, they were low on stock of pretty much everything, and only had the amazing Cockpuncher IIPA in large format bottles. This in not a bad thing at all BTW. It’s been a little while since I last had this IIPA so I thought I would catch up with an old friend and draft up a quick review….. and I get to write “Cock-Puncher” over and over again.

As an IPA fan, this guy really isn’t too far away from what you would expect of the style. It is, however, an excellent example of an IIPA. Cockpuncher has an amazing citrus aroma that packs a ton of pithy grapefruit and undertones of pine. It pours a delicate and frothy head with a translucent marmalade orange coloured body. Cockpuncher is rich on the palette. Its dense flavours run the gamete expected of Cascadey type hops; lots of citrus and grapefruit. This beer has a light tartness to its body that is slightly earthy and creamy at the same time. On the finish, Cockpuncher is easy going with a light amount of lingering grapefruit pith.

If you’re in the Junction area and you want to continuously say “Cockpuncher” while downing an excellent beer, this IIPA is for you.

My Rating: A-
